Job Description

This position entails the architectural design of residential homes, which includes site planning, space layout with ingress/egress, wall layouts with detailing and specifications, and working with the project engineer/architect to practically and efficiently integrate these effectively and accurately into plans to be used in construction. The person who fills this position should be a self-motivated individual who has a commitment to excellence, creativity, respect, and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilies

→   Develop detailed designs and architectural drawings using computer aided drafting (CAD) software with minimal supervision

→   Create such things as floor plans, interior and exterior sections, and elevations, with annotated dimensions and details e.g., building envelopes, finishes, disturbance areas, building joints, assemblies, and penetrations

→   Develop complex design layouts that consider and incorporate requirements from engineering disciplines to create a coordinated, unified design

→   Design log, modern-style, timber-frame, concrete, sip-type, structural steel, and conventionally framed homes

→   Occasionally visit existing structures to create floor plans/schematics of existing construction

Requirements

Some of our clients build in remote mountainous terrain and this may require a strong-willed individual adept to living and working in this type of environment. Good driving skills, situational awareness, and backcountry preparedness are necessary. At times it will be necessary to drive in icy/snowy conditions with limited visibility, and a 4x4 or AWD vehicle will be necessary to commute to work. The opportunity to work remotely is possible for those who are self-motivated and require minimal supervision.

Good communication skills, a willingness to learn, good focus, with attention to details and self-motivation

High school diploma or equivalent
      •
Competency with Microsoft Office programs e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel
      •
Good math aptitude
      •
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and familiarity with driving in a mountain environment (see description above)
      •
Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work assignments and deal with conflicting priorities
      •
Work at high elevations above 10,000 feet
      •
Good AutoCAD and/or BricsCAD aptitude or the ability to learn on your own – 2000 or a newer version/year is acceptable
      •
Thorough familiarity with architectural design and residential construction, preferably with experience in architectural detailing. Design experience with whole -house construction is a must
      •
Ability to meet quality standards and project deadlines
      •
Good Revit or equivalent program aptitude preferred
      •
Design experience with straw bale and tire bale homes is a plus
      •
Degrees in architecture and architectural drafting are a plus and will be considered in the salary offered
      •
Licensure to perform architecture in Colorado is a plus and will be considered in the salary offered

Bonuses are based on the company’s performance and your personal contributions, and are typically provided in autumn of each year.
